Soup, stews, and gravies, oh my!
That’s the menu this week when it’s still well below freezing. I only want to eat slightly viscous dishes with a spoon, steam wafting from my bowl as the cold air creeps under my window sills. Give me the saucy, the melty, the warm and cozy. I would normally say don’t come at me with a salad, but I will actually accept some brightly dressed greens as an accompaniment to dinner.
Thought I’d go ahead and bring you guys a real life moment from my almost three-year-old as we continue to endure extremely cold temperatures. Our playroom is an enclosed porch with poor insulation and bad windows, so it is safe to say it’s so chilly in there we basically have a large walk-in refrigerator with toys in it. Seriously, I’d feel comfortable putting raw meat in there and still cooking with it. We walked in Saturday afternoon just to see a different part of the house for a while, and when Evelyn arrived in the room, she declared, “Well, this is the coldest playroom in America!”
I’d say she nailed it.
Over the weekend, I made a Cajun chicken and rice soup from Defined Dish’s The Comfortable Kitchen cookbook. It was delicious! We have eaten it for lunch three days in a row. And the best part was one of my friends invited us over for Sunday lunch, and she said “I’m making Defined Dish Cajun Chicken and Rice Soup!” So get with the program why don’t you and throw a pot on the stove. You will not regret it.
On to this week’s Dinner Edit!
XOXO

The Menu
Exciting new attempt for The Dinner Edit this week, I got an Apple Pencil and now I’m obviously a digital artist of the highest degree. While I figure out a plot for an illustrated children’s book I plan to write someday, figured I’d write up my meal plan notes and give it a try.
